There is a particular silence that falls over a vehicle full of children when a herd of elephants walks past — and then the questions start, and do not stop for days.
A safari is one of the great family adventures. With a little planning around ages, pace and space, it can be relaxed for parents too.
A tent made for families
Our Family Tent has two independent bedroom suites, each with its own en-suite bathroom and private veranda, either side of a shared central lounge. Everyone is together for the day’s stories, and everyone has their own space at night.
Age guidelines for activities
- Children are welcomed and carefully attended to. Our rate sheet defines a child as anyone under 18.
- Some activities have minimum ages for safety. Walking safaris, for example, are for guests aged twelve and over.
- Please share your children’s ages when you enquire so we can plan the right activities.
Keeping young travellers engaged
Junior safari packs and bush school sessions are available on request. Shorter drives, a picnic in the bush and time to rest at camp in the middle of the day all help.
Tips from experience
- Bring a pair of binoculars for each child — sharing rarely works.
- Pack layers; mornings are cool and afternoons warm.
- Build in a slow day. Lazy afternoons on the veranda are part of the magic.
